Mingo County Criminal Docket Searches
The Judiciary's Court Record Access page is the front door. It splits cleanly in two. Circuit Court records go through WVPASS. That route covers a Mingo County felony or any other Circuit criminal matter. For a misdemeanor, a traffic ticket, or a felony preliminary hearing, use the Magistrate Case Record Search instead. Keep both tools in mind when a case started before a magistrate and then moved up to Circuit Court. Activity can sit in each system. Have the defendant's name or case number in hand before you begin. MCRSearch takes a first name, a last name, or a case number. It stops at 30 results. Its entry screen uses a captcha. WVPASS prompts you through its own fields. Follow whatever the live screen asks for rather than guessing a format. Registration costs nothing. The launch notice says Circuit records reach back to 1999.
- Choose Circuit or Magistrate Court based on the charge and stage.
- Open the matching official portal and select Mingo County.
- Search by the supported name or case-number controls.
- Compare charge, filing date, court, and status.
- Record the number and entry date for a clerk request.
Two Mingo Criminal Search Systems
Each system has its own job. WVPASS is the route to Circuit Court records and documents. MCRSearch covers Magistrate Court case information only, and it puts no document images online. What you get is an index to papers the Magistrate Clerk holds. It is not the complaint, order, or judgment itself.
| Channel | Coverage | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| WVPASS | Public Circuit criminal records | Confirm certified copies with Circuit Clerk |
| MCRSearch | Magistrate criminal case information | Ask Magistrate Clerk for papers |
| MFP | Exact citation or payment-plan lookup | Use for assessed payment matters |
A third option, the Magistrate Court Payment System, is narrower than it sounds. It demands an exact Citation ID, Case ID, or Payment Plan ID before it returns anything. So keep the roles straight. A payment result is not the full court file.
Criminal Dockets: What They Show
Entries run in date order on a Mingo County criminal docket. You may see the case, the defendant, the filing date, the charge, hearing settings, pleas, the disposition, and papers added to the file. MCRSearch results can include a defendant birthdate. Per the 2024 Judiciary report, they can also show filing date, charges, dispositions, and a document list. Private identifiers can be masked.
| Case number | An identifier such as 18-F-46 for a Circuit felony. |
|---|---|
| Charge | The alleged offense from a complaint, citation, information, or indictment. |
| Settings | Arraignment, preliminary, motion, pretrial, plea, trial, or sentencing dates. |
| Plea and bond | The response to a charge and any bond entry. |
| Disposition | Conviction, acquittal, dismissal, nolle prosequi, deferral, or other result. |
Read every entry with its date and court attached. A setting is not a verdict. A filed motion proves only that someone asked, not that the court granted anything. The order behind the entry controls, so request it from the proper Mingo County clerk when exact wording matters.
Mingo Criminal Case Numbers
Number shapes vary across official Mingo materials. A Circuit felony may carry something like 18-F-46. The Circuit Clerk manual uses 19-M-## for a misdemeanor filed in Circuit Court and 19-M-AP-## for a municipal appeal. A juvenile abuse identifier such as CC-30-2023-JA-96 packs in the Mingo county code, the year, the matter type, and a sequence number.
- F
- A felony designation in the cited Circuit example.
- M
- A misdemeanor designation in the clerk manual.
- M-AP
- The manual's municipal-appeal pattern.
- MMRDD
- The official DUI deferral request code.
- MMMDC
- The traffic-citation dismissal form code.
One format will never fit every criminal case. Search the punctuation exactly as printed on the paper. A transfer can create a second number, and if so, give the clerk both. That pairing may connect a Magistrate preliminary record with the later Circuit prosecution.
Criminal Case Stages on the Docket
The recorded sequence opens with a complaint, citation, information, or indictment. Next comes an initial appearance or arraignment. There the court takes up the charge, rights, counsel, a plea, or the next event. In a felony case, Magistrate Court may hold a preliminary hearing. From there the docket can show a waiver or transfer. Circuit Court then carries the prosecution forward.
Docket flow: Filing or Citation › Initial Appearance or Arraignment › Bond and Preliminary Stage › Pretrial Motions › Plea or Trial › Disposition and Sentence › Appeal or Post-Judgment Entry
Expect pretrial entries for discovery, subpoenas, notices, motions, and continuances. Later lines may record a verdict, plea agreement, sentence, costs, restitution, probation action, payment plan, appeal, or expungement petition. A continuance only moves a date; it never dismisses the charge.
Mingo Criminal Forms and Filings
The Judiciary's Magistrate Court forms collection shows how citation and criminal matters get documented, with traffic dismissal, criminal, appeal, and deferral forms all included. It is not a case database. What it offers are blank forms and field definitions that help you recognize docket entries when you see them.

A citation form can carry the offense. It also lists the answer date, the officer, and the case identifiers that unlock a Mingo County criminal search. Keep the issued paper close. An exact number beats a common-name query every time.
The dismissal form asks for the citation and case number, the issue date, the officer, the violation, and the grounds. The prosecutor then has ten days after delivery to object. Filing changes nothing by itself. Relief arrives only with the later court order, so check the criminal docket for it.
Mingo County Criminal Docket Courts
Felonies belong to the Circuit Court, which holds general jurisdiction over them. Mingo County shares the Eleventh Judicial Circuit with Logan County. The Mingo Circuit Clerk keeps those criminal dockets. It also holds filed papers, orders, judgments, and appeals. Magistrate Court, meanwhile, handles misdemeanors, traffic cases, warrants, and preliminary hearings in felony matters.

Town ordinance cases and municipal traffic matters sit outside the unified state system, in municipal courts. For a town-issued matter, the town recorder may be your stop. The County Clerk handles probate, land, and county records, not the Circuit criminal docket.
Mingo Magistrate Search Limits
The official Magistrate search explanation lays out the limits of the free tool: a first name, last name, or case number goes in, and up to 30 records come out, with no document images. A common name can hit that cap fast. Add the case number when you can, and confirm Mingo as the filing county before trusting a match.

Mingo County's online disclaimer notes that docket information can be incomplete. It points to the filing clerk. When a record is missing or a document list skips the paper you need, call Teresa L. Lackey's office. You can also review the file at the counter or use the public terminal there.
Mail requests work too. But call first for the current delivery address, payment, and copying instructions. The clerk posts no Mingo-specific form, email route, or turnaround time. In any written request, identify the court, the case number, the party role, the filing year, and the exact paper you want. Include your preferred format and return contact details too.
Mingo Treatment Court Docket Entries
The Eleventh Circuit Treatment Court covers Logan and Mingo County and began in 2020. Its activity usually hides under the underlying Circuit or Family case number. A public criminal docket may show only a referral, a review setting, an order, a graduation, or a disposition.
Even then, the entry tells less than the program record holds. Health, treatment, eligibility, and child-related details can stay confidential. An order or index can stay public. Start with the regular case number. Ask the clerk what a short docket label means.
Access Rules for Criminal Dockets
West Virginia generally allows inspection and copies of court records, with limits. Mingo County juvenile files, sealed material, protected family records, expunged matters, domestic-violence data, and private identifiers may be missing, restricted, or redacted. A search result that comes back empty does not mean no case exists.
Key Rules:
W. Va. Code § 51-4-2 permits inspection and copies unless access is limited.
W. Va. Code § 49-5-101 protects juvenile records.
Trial Court Rule 10.04 sends requests to the custodian court or clerk.
Copies from the Mingo County Circuit Court clerk run $1 per page when mailed out. Magistrate Court charges less, at 25 cents a page. Fees for certification or postage can add to the total. So confirm the final amount before you send payment. For formal proof of a criminal docket entry, the clerk-certified copy is the one that counts.
